Dissertation Title: Sentimiento de Pertenencia Nacional y Cosmopolitismo en
el Arte Nuevo en España (1918-1936)
Abstract: This research studies the dialectical process between the
cosmopolitan intention and the feeling of belonging in the new art. It defends
that cosmopolitan intentions cohabited with the regional/national identity,
and, in Spain, both engaged in a dialogue that intended to be harmonic. The
time frame for this study goes from 1918 to 1936 and covers several geographic
areas within the national context, such as the Canary Islands, Castile and Catalonia. Primary texts used are
wide: several periodical publications, such as L'Amic de les Arts (1926-1929), La Gaceta Literaria (1927-1932),
and Gaceta de Arte (1932-1936); poems, like Lancelot 28º. 7th (1928) by Agustín Espinosa; and other genres
such as the essay El hombre en función del paisaje (1930) by Pedro García Cabrera or works of literary
criticism as Literaturas europeas de vanguardia (1925) by Guillermo de Torre.
