My name is Alejandro Mendez-Betancor, and I graduated from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain) in 2005, with a degree in European History. I have two Masters of Arts (Spanish Linguistics and Spanish Literature), and a PhD in Spanish Literature at the University of Colorado at Boulder. My areas of interest are: Second language acquisition, Online Educational Resources (OER), the construction of identities in literature, national identities, 19th and 20th Century Spanish Narrative, and literature and culture from the Canary Islands.
I have ten years of experience teaching Spanish to college students at the Spanish and Portuguese Department at the University of Colorado at Boulder (CU). I have also taught adults for the Anderson Languages & Technology Center at CU. I was granted with the Course Redesign Grant from the Anderson Language & Technology Center for incorporating a telecollaboration project, where students at University of Colorado at Boulder participated in an online discussion with students in Benemérita Universidad de Puebla, Mexico. My job is to create an atmosphere that fosters desire to learn. I have a passion for guiding students through the learning process, in addition to a passion for the Spanish culture, literature and language.
